The character of Subiaco Academy begins with its Mission Statement. Subiaco Academy, an all boys boarding/day high school, is dedicated to providing young men with the opportunity for a college preparatory education in a stable and structured environment nourished by Christian values. The Subiaco experience also provides the opportunity to create a sense of community, which is a reflection of Catholic Benedictine traditions of service to God, respect for self and others, mutual support and the value of work. Subiaco Academy is nestled in a safe, comfortable setting in the Arkansas River Valley between the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains. This setting accompanied by a high caliber faculty and carefully selected student body fosters a climate for academic achievement for young men in grades eight through twelve. Drawing on the rich educational heritage and philosophy of the Catholic Benedictine Monks who founded the Academy in 1887, Subiaco Academy (SA) provides an environment that is academically well rounded, structured, and challenging for every student. The SA community is a diverse one, with students coming from across the country and around the world. In the last few years, nine different countries have been represented in the student body. The mixture of languages, cultures, ideas and experiences is a vital aspect of learning, and a vital aspect of the "Subiaco Experience." Students range in academic ability from average to superior and represent a variety of social, economic, racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Since students learn from one another as well as from their instructors, the generally high quality of the student body encourages the intellectual development of each student. SA is committed to developing each student's potential through college preparatory academics, championship athletics, award winning arts and Christian education. The student body at SA is relatively small (40-45 per grade). This close-knit community enables our students to develop a sense of self worth and the personal relationships skills that will help them succeed. This smaller size also provides great opportunity to participate both inside and outside the classroom. SA competes in eight varsity sports. They are:
SA also provides opportunity for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming, camping and boating. In addition to the 100 acre campus, the Abbey owns land that includes three lakes, two ponds. On nearby Lake Dardanelle SA has a bunk house type cabin with a boat dock and launch ramp and two pontoon boats, a ski boat and numerous canoes and kayaks that provide for water sports and lots of fun. In the performing arts complex are a 350+ seat auditorium, a choir room, piano lab, 8 sound rooms and a jazz 'pit'. The music department has 15 pianos and a variety of other instruments plus a computerized composition and experimental music facility. Our Jazz Ensemble has been undefeated in competition from 2001 through 2006 and the choral groups delight audiences with each performance. SA also has an award winning visual arts department where students learn to express themselves beautifully with sketching, painting, pottery, sculpting and stained glass. This along with our computer art classes helps them develop a real sense of, and appreciation for, various forms of artistic expression. The college preparation process at SA begins in the freshman year and continues through the college and scholarship application process in the senior year. The Academy staff provides various forms of assistance including SAT and ACT preparation which has helped SA graduates achieve an awesome track record of 100% college placement. Colleges attended by SA graduates are diverse as well, but among them are many top ranked schools and scholarships, including 6 appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in the period from 2000 to 2006! Academic, athletic and artistic achievements are all great, but one of the most important accomplishments is that Subiaco Academy helps your son become the man that you hope he will be. Among all the diversity, what these students have in common is that they are all young men who want a great experience and an opportunity to develop more of their potential. What their parents have in common is that they want to give their sons the best chance to succeed in high school, college and LIFE.
