The mission of The Storm King School, an independent, co-educational boarding and day school, is to provide a personally supportive, safe learning environment. Individual attention is offered to a multicultural student body, with a broad range of abilities, by caring faculty who help young people reach their full intellectual potential. A traditional curriculum, enhanced by co-curricular programs and a strong emphasis on moral development, prepares students for higher education. Established as the Cornwall Heights School in 1867 by Reverend Louis P. Ledoux, an Amherst graduate and pastor of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, the school later was known as the Stone School when Dr. Carlos H. Stone directed it. The present name, The Storm King School, dates from 1923, when Alvan R. Duerr was headmaster, and is taken from the mountain where the school is located. There are approximately 135 students currently enrolled at Storm King, 70% boarding and 30% day students. The School enrolls students from 16 states and 10 countries. The Storm King School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the New York State Association of Independent Schools, and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, and the College Board, among other professional organizations. The school is governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees, of which half are alumni. We believe that:
