The School

Founded in 1898 by Mira Hinsdale Hall, Miss Hall's School was one of the first girls' boarding schools established in New England. A graduate of Smith College, Mira Hall understood the advantages to girls of having a place of their own in which to learn and grow. During her forty-year tenure, she created a learning environment based on respect and sensitivity, stimulating teaching, competitive spirit, intelligent supervision, and personal warmth. Now, more than 100 years later, the School continues to educate young women and guide them towards success and fulfillment in their academic, professional, and personal endeavors.

Academic Program

The Miss Hall's School university-preparatory academic program includes full offerings in math, science, history, English, foreign languages, English as a Second Language, the arts, and athletics. The English as a Second Language Program is designed to help students develop proficiency in English as they compete academically in an all-English language culture. In addition to five traditional academic courses, students are encouraged to choose among the following art courses: three levels of Studio Art, photography, ceramics, drama, History of Art, and music. Each girl is also encouraged to participate in our athletic program. The School fields teams in soccer, field hockey, skiing, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, softball and tennis. Also included in the Miss Hall's curriculum is the Horizons program, an off-campus experiential learning and internship program. Horizons allows students to gain new skills, explore areas of interest for college majors and careers, increase financial literacy, and learn the value of service. An average class size of ten and student to teacher ratio of 7:1 ensure that each student receives the individual attention and encouragement vital to her success.

Life at Miss Hall's School

Set in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts (2.5 hours from Boston and New York City) and with an enrollment of 185 students, Miss Hall's is able to maintain a small-school environment in which every girl is recognized for her unique talents and encouraged to explore all of her interests. Our students, who come from 20 U.S. states and 20 countries, represent a broad spectrum of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, creating a valuable diversity within the student body.

At Miss Hall's, each student is encouraged to try new activities, test her leadership ability, and play an active role in the life of the School. With teams, clubs, and organizations to match every interest, it is easy to get involved at Miss Hall's School.

Miss Hall's welcomes applications from girls who have the intellectual capacity and academic commitment necessary to meet the challenges of a demanding university-preparatory curriculum. We also value extracurricular involvement, a spirit of curiosity, a willingness to explore new interests, and evidence of good citizenship.
