Lawrence Academy is a college-preparatory school for students in grades 9-12. A diverse student population from all parts of the world comes together here for a unique educational experience in active learning. Our innovative approach allows students to explore and build upon their interests, while benefiting from a rigorous curriculum that draws upon traditional academic disciplines.

Average enrollment: 396 students (200 boys, 196 girls)

International student composition: 12 percent. In an average year, Lawrence students come from 20 countries in Europe, Asia and South America, Middle East.

English as a Second Language (ESL) program: Intermediate and advance class offerings designed to prepare students to enter mainstream courses.

Dormitories: Ten dormitories, many of which have been converted from historical New England homes, fully wired for 21st- century communication and structured to promote a family atmosphere and support a close-knit residential program.

Extracurricular Activities: A wide range of extracurricular activities, including 15 varsity sports, 4 music groups/ensembles, community service and numerous student clubs and organizations.

Experiential Education: Two week learning opportunity, called Winterim, in a new setting outside the classroom or beyond the campus.

College Placement: Five college counselors work closely with students to guide them in the college selection process. A small sampling of some of the colleges that our students have attended in the past three years include- Babson College, Bates College, Boston College, Boston University, Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chicago Art Institute, College of the Holy Cross, Dartmouth College, George Washington University, Georgetown, Hobart and William Smith College, Johns Hopkins, Lehigh University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern, Parsons School of Design, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, Trinity College, Tufts University, Tulane University, University of Chicago, University of San Francisco, University of Southern California, Wellesley College, Wesleyan University.

International Students at Lawrence Academy

International and American students have a unique opportunity at Lawrence to live and learn with people from many different countries. Our English as a Second Language Program provides international students with strong academic preparation for college and careers. The program, which is divided into intermediate and advanced levels, is designed to be taken sequentially so that all students who take intermediate ESL course their first year will move to advanced courses the next. In class, you focus on mastering reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension. At Lawrence, non-native speakers of English participate fully in school life: in the classroom, athletics, extracurricular activities and dormitories. We strive to help international students become comfortable living in another culture and with meeting the expectations of a new educational system.

Application Timetable and Procedures

  • September - January: Complete application package (please note: international students are encouraged to apply online), schedule campus visit and interview by calling the Admissions Office at 978-448-1530
  • November- January: Complete TOEFL testing (visit www.toefl.org for more information regarding test information) and/or SSAT testing (visit www.ssat.org for more information regarding test information)
  • All international students: Application deadline is January 15
  • March 10: Notification for all applications that were completed by February 1
  • April 10: Applicants notify Admissions Office of their decision to enroll
