The Glenholme Schoollocated on 100 acres of countryside, in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains of Connecticut. Glenholme is a boarding school for children with special needs. We teach varying levels of academic, social and emotional development in a highly structured learning and living environment. The education program, grades 3-12, awards course credit and diploma through the accrediting body of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The goal of our school is to prepare our graduates for continued higher education.Communities of CharacterGlenholme is a Community of Character, creating an environment that is healthy and valuable for students to learn and practice positive values and good decision making. Through Communities of Character each student, family, and faculty member is asked to use the universal values of Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Community Service, Kindness, and Fairness in the every day involvement with the school. These principles are woven into every facet of the students' educational, recreational, therapeutic, and residential program.Education and AcademicsThe Glenholme School's individualized curriculum and classes allow teachers to fully understand each student's needs while creating interactive, educational activities for them to partake in. Students with learning difficulties are allowed time to work at their own pace, while being provided with hands-on experiences and continuous reinforcement of skills. Students with greater motivation and independent learning skills are embraced by a curriculum that is modified to be both challenging and rewarding. Glenholme motivates students to be enthusiastic about learning, challenges students to do their best and encourages parental involvement in all facets of education and treatment. The ArtsGlenholme strongly believes that the Arts are a key element in a student's complete education. The Glenholme School's commitment to the Arts invites students to participate in drama, musical theatre, visual art, choral and various music and art classes both during and after school. The Artist in Residence program is designed to increase and highlight the arts in education by introducing a variety of professional artists: dancers, musicians, visual artists and performers to lead hands-on activities and lessons for the students.Technology IntegrationTechnology is an integral part of our academic environment. Glenholme's new media center, student cottages, and classrooms afford students the opportunity to learn in a hands-on environment. By maintaining the student web page and radio station, conducting research for projects, and becoming familiar with today's most up to date software programs, students are kept on the leading edge of technology. Professional development classes are offered to faculty to ensure technology is utilized to support, enhance and elaborate on instruction in the classroom.Living at GlenholmeGlenholme's campus allows everyone to enjoy the many aspects of life that apply to their education. Living in "home-like cottages" with 24-hour staffing provide students the opportunity to foster lasting friendships with a diverse group of students, while becoming more independent and acquiring the interpersonal skills that are instrumental in becoming a well-rounded individual. On campus, students can find many activities to challenge themselves with new fields of interest.
