Army and Navy Academy (ANA) is a university preparatory, military, residential and day school for 350 young men in grades 7 through 12. The Academy dedicates itself to providing a comprehensive education in a safe and structured environment.

Situated on 16 acres adjoining the Pacific Ocean in the community of Carlsbad, California, the campus facilities include residence halls and cottages, academic classrooms and offices, an administration building that houses an auditorium/gymnasium, a chapel, a beachside recreation center, library, rifle range, swimming pool, tennis courts and an athletic field.

Program

The Mission of Army and Navy Academy is to educate and develop young men of good character to lead lives of service and excellence.

Founded in 1910, the Academy's academic, extracurricular and leadership programs create a well-rounded learning experience that develops honor, discipline and integrity. At the Academy, cadets cultivate responsible leadership preparing them for a lifetime of achievement. The educational program is built on three distinct goals: academic achievement, physical development and character development.

Though the origin of the student body spans the globe, they are all united as a corps of cadets. The current student body comes from 10 countries and 14 states including China, Dagestan, Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, and Canada.

Academic Program

The curriculum is aligned with the entrance requirements for the University of California system. A rigorous program coupled with the attentive faculty and small classes prepares our graduates for entrance into the university of their choice. Ninety-seven percent of our graduates are accepted at colleges and universities each year. A partial list of universities includes University of California at Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Davis, and Irvine, the Universities of Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Massachusettes, Michigan, Washington, United States Naval Academy and West Point, Villanova, Penn State and Pepperdine. A current list is available through the college counseling office at ANA.

Middle School Curriculum

High School Curriculum

These include creative writing, journalism, drama, music appreciation, art, photography, band and advanced band, music technology, computers, environmental science, psychology, drill team and color guard.

Athletic Program

ANA fields competitive teams in 12 varsity and junior varsity sports, including football, cross country, water polo, soccer, basketball, wrestling, rifle team, baseball, track, golf, swimming and tennis. New to the 2005-2006 school year is a surf team and hockey team.

The Academy views the athletic program as a part of the overall mission, which is the development of each cadet as a complete person. Playing on teams encourages camaraderie among the cadets, fosters good sportsmanship, and teaches these young men good habits for a healthy lifestyle.

Leadership Program

The military program here is seen as a way to involve boys in the process of learning about themselves, developing into responsible leaders, and growing into fine young men with a strong sense of their own mission in life. The program teaches them the importance of discipline of mind and body. Through marching drills, daily formations, and adherence to rules cadets learn important lessons about self-discipline, determination and espirit de corps. At every stage of the leadership program there is accountability and recognition. Cadets are afforded many opportunities for rewards based on merit and are granted increased responsibility in accordance with their own increased maturity.

International Admissions Process

Application materials can be obtained on-line or by calling the Admissions Office. A completed application, two teachers' reports, a translated transcript of grades and professional evaluation (see below), TOEFL score must be submitted for consideration of enrollment. We also need a copy of a birth certificate or passport, immunity records and proof of health insurance. A personal interview is required in order to receive first consideration.

Transcript evaluations: Josef Silney and Associates, a professional high school and college accreditation agency in Florida, must evaluate all high school transcripts. These evaluations are necessary for proper grade placement into Army and Navy Academy and will be required to gain entrance into American Universities. (Josef Silney is an option. There are other translation companies available.)

The Academy will issue an I-20 document to the applicant, upon his acceptance, for use in applying for his student visa.
